One of my favourite neighbourhoods in Madrid, the Santa Anna area has a teensy-weensy chip shop. Two old guys work there, one at the counter one manning a gigantic cauldron of oil, frying potatoes, stirring the pot with a huge paddle. Restauranteurs line up to get there daily rations and I was right alongside them getting mine!

Sounds amazing! Do you know the name of the place by chance? I should be in Madrid in the next few months. I'd love to stop by!

I haven’t been since before the lock down, but it’s called fabrica de churros y patatas fritas … it’s super popular and if I remember correctly they don’t allow photos inside 😁

Thanks, Lolly! Such a fantastic match, and the corn nuts bring it to another textural, salty level.

Oh I missed the corn nuts part!! Do we have those here in Italy?! I never looked 🙃

I’m not sure. Though I didn’t even know we had them in the States until I ate them in Spain and then came home and started looking for them. They sell them in the bulk bin of my local health food store.

Ah! Ok. I’ll look and let you know 😍 You’re Italian? Or American?

I am Italian-American, and grew up between Maryland and New York. My fraternal grandparents, one from Northern Sicily and the other from Piacenza, immigrated to New York just before my father was born. My partner's family is in Spain, so we spend a lot of time there as well.
